I am profoundly brokenhearted to share that my mom, Sharon DeVita, passed away today after a very sudden and brief illness. Mom was 64.
My stepfather, Frank Cushing, has always been a hero, but in the last two weeks has proven what unfailing love and dedication are and he is those qualities personified. I was lucky enough to spend this past weekend in the ICU with Mom for Mother's Day, and Annie and I both made it back to Tucson late last night. We all spent the last hours of Mom's life today holding her hands and making sure nothing was left unsaid. We conveyed the well wishes and love of her many friends and relatives. We brought a picture of my mom and brother dancing together so Tony could oversee the events.
Mom was given last rites by a Catholic priest and she will be brought home to Chicago to be buried along with my brother, as were her wishes. We will have a Memorial at some point in the next few months in Chicago and will circulate the information when we have plans made.
Thank you to the friends and family who have already conveyed your amazing love and affection for Mom. She has left us far too soon and far too quickly but the shock and loss is soothed somewhat by the love and prayers coming our way. Thank you for all of that. Mom was a huge talent, a huge personality, and a huge blessing. Her loss is equally huge.
